Garba Pass Prices in Ahmedabad 2026: What You Actually Pay

Sharad Navratri 2026 begins on Sunday, 11 October and runs to Monday, 19 October, with Vijayadashami on Tuesday, 20 October. Ahmedabad usually starts moving before that, with pre-Navratri nights through late September.

Somewhere in that window you will look at two garba events, see ₹499 on one and ₹2,500 on the other, and wonder what the second one is doing that the first one is not.

Sometimes the answer is real. Sometimes it is just the calendar. Here is how the number is actually arrived at.

The ₹500 line explains more than you would expect

A lot of event pricing in India clusters just under ₹500, and it is not a coincidence.

Under Notification No. 12/2017-Central Tax (Rate), admission to dance, theatrical and musical performances is exempt from GST where the price of admission is not more than ₹500 per person. Cross that line and 18% GST applies to the full amount, not only the part above ₹500. The notification is available on the CBIC GST portal.

So a ₹499 pass and a ₹501 pass are not ₹2 apart in the organiser's accounts. They are closer to ₹90 apart. That is why entry tiers so often sit at ₹399 or ₹499, and why the next tier up tends to jump straight to ₹700 or ₹800 rather than ₹550. Once GST applies, there is no reason to sit just above the line.

What actually moves the price

Whether the venue is covered and cooled. This is the biggest single split in Ahmedabad. An open party plot and an air-conditioned dome are different cost structures before a single pass is sold. Domes carry structure hire, cooling load and power backup across the whole run, and that gets recovered through the pass.

Who is on stage. A live mandli with a named singer costs several times what a DJ-led night costs. A nine-night booking of a well-known artist is a large fixed cost that has to be spread across every pass sold, which is why artist-led events rarely have a cheap tier.

Which night it is. Ashtami and Navami are commonly the most expensive nights of the run. Sharad Poonam, which follows the festival, is usually priced separately again. The first two or three nights are the cheapest, and a Monday or Tuesday in the first half of the festival is the cheapest slot you will find at any given venue.

Capacity. A ground taking 15,000 people a night can price lower per head than a 1,500-capacity venue with the same production standard. Smaller venues are not overcharging by definition; they have fewer people to divide the cost across.

Where it is. SG Highway, Sindhu Bhavan Road, Bopal and Shantigram command more than venues further out, for the same reason restaurants there do.

How early you book. Early tiers on garba events are usually real and usually close, because organisers need cash before the festival to pay for the ground, stage, power, sound and security. The size of that gap varies by event and is stated on the listing itself.

Whether it is a society garba. Residential society and pol garba in the old city are free or nominal where they are open at all, and many now restrict entry to residents for crowd control. They are not competing with ticketed events and are not a useful price benchmark for them.

Whether it is state-run. Gujarat Tourism hosts its own Navratri programme at GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad, listed on the Incredible India festivals directory. State-organised events are priced separately from the private circuit and often sit below it.

Season pass or daily pass

Most large events sell both. A season pass is priced below the sum of the daily passes it replaces, so there is a break-even number of nights written into it. Work out what that number is on the specific event before choosing.

The maths only works if you will actually attend. Garba nights run from about 8 PM past midnight, nine nights consecutively, through a working week. A season pass bought in optimism and used four times costs more per night than four daily passes would have.

Two things to confirm before choosing:

• Whether the season pass covers Ashtami, Navami and Sharad Poonam, or excludes them as separately priced nights
• Whether it is transferable, since most garba passes are tied to the buyer and cannot be handed to a friend for an unused night

Tier names mean nothing on their own

There is no standard in Indian event ticketing for what Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Royal or VIP contains. One organiser's Gold is general standing at the back. Another's is a reserved block with separate entry.

Read what the tier includes, not what it is called. What actually differs:

• Position on the floor, and whether the dance area is separate from the seating area
• Whether entry is through a separate gate, which matters most on the peak nights
• Whether seating is reserved or first-come
• Whether food or a food voucher is included
• Whether parking or valet is included

If two tiers on the same event list identical inclusions at different prices, the gap is buying position and nothing else.

The costs that appear after the pass

The pass price is not the full evening.

• Parking is charged separately at many venues. Valet, where offered, costs more.
• Food and drink inside the venue is priced as event catering, not street pricing.
• Chaniya choli and kediyu rental runs through September and early October and is a real budget line, particularly when more than one person in the house needs an outfit.
• Cab fares after midnight on the peak nights rise sharply, and clearing the parking at a large venue at 1 AM takes longer than the ride home.

Budget the night, not the ticket.

What to check before you pay

The final amount on the payment screen. Convenience fees on Indian ticketing platforms are usually a percentage plus GST, applied at the last step. Compare what is actually debited, not what is on the event card.

The date and the tier. Garba listings often carry nine or ten separate date entries at different prices. Confirm the night before paying, because most garba passes are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Who you are buying from. Demand on the peak nights produces a predictable amount of fraud, mostly forwarded screenshots and forged QR codes circulating on WhatsApp and Instagram. ID requirements. Most ticketed garba events in Ahmedabad ask for the e-pass plus a government ID at the gate, and some carry age restrictions on specific nights.

When to book

Now to mid-September: opening tiers are live and at their lowest. This is also when the dome events, which sell out first, still have every tier available.

Mid-September to early October: most events are fully listed and prices sit at the middle tier. A reasonable window if you want to compare before committing.

After 5 October: early tiers are closed on the larger events, and the peak nights go first. Expect the highest published price and limited choice of tier.
